<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
Must I be carried to the skies,

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
On flow'ry beds of ease,

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
While others fought to win the prize,

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
And sailed through bloody seas?

The above words from this hymn "Am I a Soldier of the Cross" often bring tears to our eyes. This is especially true when we hear reports of saints going home to Jesus as a result of persecution. The report of 33 North Korean Christians being reportedly sentenced to execution has hit us hard. And it should. And our tears should flow. But shouldn't we be asking ourselves often, "What do you have for me to do, Lord?" I could go on and on, but won't. Just read the blog post here and you'll understand better. I want to post a link on all my blogs as a reminder of these things. Actually it's a painful reminder and well it should be.

Also, "sorrow and joy contended together" at the homegoing yesterday of a fellow pilgrim who had suffered long while serving well. Joy over what he now has and sorrow at our loss, of course. I've spoken often here of John Farese. He's home now and glory be to God.

This was my first blog and I don't keep it up anymore except to record family events usually. I may not even being doing that much anymore, but we'll see how the Lord leads as to posting in the future. It's okay, as this is the way life is. Seasons of life change.

God bless and let's keep pressing on for our Savior.Maxinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00040368808197747483noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32175001.post-46884403804913413842013-12-22T00:00:00.000-05:002014-03-10T16:25:09.482-04:00Birthday Number Twenty-One

So, my dear little baby girl, have we really reached this milestone? You are twenty-one years old today. Let me say this again. It has been twenty-one years since a gorgeous bundle of pink and white entered our lives and became the darling of her parents and twelve year old sister. And having gone through the stages of babyhood, toddlerhood, childhood, adolescence, and the teen years, now here you are a young woman, yet you continue to be the special girl we all love and want to look after and make sure you're alright.

As unbelievable as it seems in so many ways to think of you as a woman, it's also something for which we're so very thankful. You've gone through all these years, and stages, and have arrived at this important time of life having the Lord on your side and keeping a desire to please Him in your choices and lifestyle. You've kept your love for family, ALL your family, from your parents to your sister and brother-in-law, and as everyone knows, your darling little nieces. And you've been a blessing to each and every one of us.

You've made plans for your life, and they're good and godly ones. We hope you feel our support and good wishes as you look to the future. Hopefully, you'll be used of our Lord, whether you pursue nursing, which has been your dream (and a good one), or God leads you in some other direction by and by. Whatever road you're on, let Him be the guide in everything. Who knows what He has in store for you? All we ask is that you never leave Him out of anything that comes your way. If that's true, we know you'll be fine.

Happy Birthday. We love you.

Busy time in the life of birthdays in our family, as our son-in-law Edie joins in with his. I love how God adds to families and while He's done so for us with the birth of our three grandchildren, it all started when He gave to our daughter a good husband who strives to serve Him and lead His family well.

So a quick Happy Birthday to Edie, who makes us laugh often and keeps some of us on our toes! Glad the Lord helped you to "get a life!" (Inside joke.)

Hope the next year is blessed, Edie!

To our happy twirly five year old! You are five already? How did that
happen so fast? But that's a good thing because it's a happy thing for
us to see you growing and learning. And it's also so nice to see you
still being such a helper to your mommy. Now that you're older, you can REALLY help her a lot--and you do! And sometimes you like to help me too and I'm sure you're a helper with other people when you get a chance. So God gave you a helper's heart, and we're very thankful to see that in you. And guess what, Shana? You are right in the middle of your sisters. That means you can learn things from Selena, and it also means you can teach Gracie things. Now that is pretty special that you get to do both!

You already know that PopPop and I love you SO MUCH. And you and Nanna like to hang out together, don't we? We like to eat good things together and hold hands. And you're still not too big to sit on my lap! You even said so the other day. :) Now, what makes your daddy and mommy and all the rest of us the happiest is that you want to love and please God. We will pray that all your life that will be what you want most. We'll keep praying that Jesus will be very precious to you and have first place in your heart.

We love you! Happy Birthday, Sweetie.

Gracie! Two years old! I was remembering this morning those exciting days when we were waiting for you to come and then you were born, making us all so happy and you've been making us all happy ever since. What a delight you have been and now you're leaving babyhood and becoming another sweet little girl in our midst. Thank you, dear Gracie, for all your smiles, hugs and kisses, and pats on the back. Thank you for loving us, because we sure do love you--a LOT.

You're getting to be the age that you understand things better, and it's our prayer that you will understand all that the Bible teaches about Jesus and that you'll grow to love Him and want to please Him more than anybody else. if you do you'll be happy, Sweetheart. You'll be blessed.

We're so thankful God gave you a good home with a Daddy and Mommy who love you and two sisters who have cherished you from the moment you first arrived two years ago. I'm sure you're thankful too.

God bless you and Happy Birthday, dear precious Gracie.
So, guess who it was that first made me a grandmom? Yep, it was you! Every time your birthday rolls around, I think back to hearing those first cries from my little itsy bitsy granddaughter coming from behind the curtain. What a blessed privilege that was! And now, that's been SEVEN whole years ago. Shall I say that again? You are seven! WOW. But you're still the same sweet and fun Selena we've had all along--just a bit older.

Keep being the same girl you are, Sweetheart. That's why you have so many friends, because you make others happy to be around you. And, of course, WE'RE always happy to have you around US too. Keep being a shining light for others, especially your sisters. What a wonderful and important thing it is to have others look up to you as the oldest. And you're doing a good job. You always have taken good care of Shana and Gracie. And we're glad they have you as an example in obeying your daddy and mommy too.

God bless you on your birthday, Lena. And most important of all: Keep loving Jesus.

Happy Birthday ! We love you so much!
The sweet, thoughtful, and even godly little girl is now a sweet, thoughtful and godly young woman. As you have yet another birthday, we still love you as much as ever; we couldn't love you more. God bless you to keep following Him. May He continue to give you grace as a wife and mother as we know this is closest to your heart. We're so thankful our grandchildren have such a loving mom and we know their upbringing is safe in your hands. May the Lord bless Edie, Selena, Shana, and Gracie with you for many years. And Neesie and us too.
For some reason, I don't usually post my husband or my birthdays here, but he did have another one today and I think I should mark these now and then. So thankful for him and that the Lord has granted him yet another year. We're all thankful for him, as the patriarch of our little family. Much love from your wife, sweetie.
go to Sunday school? If you’re in a church which, for whatever reason,

named Robert Raikes who was concerned about poor ragged children in his
native England. At first, these children were taught to read and write
as well as given spiritual training because it was the only school these
particular children attended. When others heard of the success of this
school held on Sundays, many more such schools cropped up all over
England and the movement's eventual spread throughout the world is history.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Seems this blog is used primarily now for recording and recognizing birthdays in my family. <span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Now it's Neesie's turn once again and guess what? We no longer have a teenager in this house. <span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">So to Neesie: Now a college student, now working with your first love, children, whenever you can, we're very thankful to see you now pretty officially a young woman. We're friends now on a different level and I'm grateful we can talk and laugh together, which we do often. I'm most grateful to see you striving to be faithful to your Lord in every area of life. May He bless you for that. Your love for your nieces is a precious thing and why they adore you as they do. Now that the twelve years difference seems more narrow, we're also happy to see your friendship with your sister growing on a different level as you mature. Keep it up; she's a wonderful resource for you, partly because of her godly character and partly because of her love for you.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">We all love you and are shooting for you in the future. Waiting to see all that God has in store for you. Keep looking to Him!
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Is it true? You are FOUR? Really and truly have you gotten to be THAT old? Well, just yesterday we were carrying you around and then I remember watching you toddling after you first started to walk, but now all of a sudden you're not so little any more. Now you help Mommy take care of Sariah and even know just how big to make the pieces when you feed her things. You are so helpful and so caring about everybody else and there is no doubt that pleases God. And you know what is really special? You WANT to please God, just like your sister does. You know what? I think you're always going to be that way and and I hope so because that is why your friends like playing with you so much.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Yes, that is right!!! We have another grandchild who is turning one. This time it's Sariah Grace's turn. Sometimes called Sariah, oftentimes "Gracie," words cannot tell you what an absolute delight she is to her mommy and daddy, her sisters who ADORE her, her Auntie Nee who often gets to spend lots of time with her, and not least of all, her PopPop and Nanna. And it does not stop there. She has Grandmom and Pop on daddy's side, along with other aunties and uncles and cousins who find her pretty special too. And we can't even stop there. At the church we attend we have loads of people who enjoy our little missy every chance they get. And well, now I will stop there because I could go on and on and bore you. Petite, cuddly, and oh so cute,she continues to captivate us. Words cannot express how blessed we are by her being a part of our lives. The fact that she came after two others makes her no less a treasure. And a treasure and little gem in our family she surely is. Her mom recently told me her life verse is Colossians 3:17. How our prayer for our little Sariah Grace is that all her life she will at least try, prayerfully, to do everything to please her Savior. And that means, of course, that she will know and love Jesus, and that he WILL be her Savior from a very early age.
Well, hi, folks. Sorry I'm not blogging much these days, but hope all is well with my old friends. Got this email a few days ago, and yesterday my clothesline fell down, so it seemed appropriate to post this while my dear hubby right now tries to hook it to a different tree.

<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<b style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Love this one and yes,
there were people who really did all the correct things in hanging clothes.

I remember my grandmother and mother doing all of these things.

Of course you washed the whites first, then the medium
colored and last was the dark dirty work clothes. I've seen this done in during
a drought, you used the wash water to wash the floor, then it was dumped on the
few dried veggies you had growing. The rinse water you washed the kids feet and
it also got dumped on the veggie patches.

Remembering Mom's Clothesline

There is one thing that's left out. We had a long
wooden pole (clothes pole) that was used to push the clotheslines up so that
longer items (sheets/pants/etc.) didn't brush the ground and get dirty.

You have to be a "certain age" to appreciate
this one....

(But you YOUNGER ones can read about "The GOOD
ol' days"!!)

I can hear my mother now.....

THE BASIC RULES FOR CLOTHESLINES:

(If you don't even know what clotheslines are, better
skip this.)

1. You had to hang the socks by the toes... NOT the
top.

2. You hung pants by the BOTTOM/cuffs... NOT the
waistbands.

3. You had to WASH the clothesline(s) before hanging
any clothes - walk the entire length of each line with a damp cloth around the
lines.

4. You had to hang the clothes in a certain order, and
always hang "whites" with "whites," and hang them first.

5. You NEVER hung a shirt by the shoulders - always by
the tail! What would the neighbors think?

6. Wash day on a Monday! NEVER hang clothes on the
weekend, or on Sunday, for Heaven's sake!

7. Hang the sheets and towels on the OUTSIDE lines so
you could hide your "unmentionables" in the middle (perverts &
busybodies, y'know!)

8. It didn't matter if it was sub-zero weather...
clothes would "freeze-dry."

9. ALWAYS gather the clothes pins when taking down dry
clothes! Pins left on the lines were "tacky"!

10. If you were efficient, you would line the clothes
up so that each item did not need two clothes pins, but shared one of the
clothes pins with the next washed item.

11. Clothes off of the line before dinner time, neatly
folded in the clothes basket, and ready to be ironed.

12. IRONED???!! Well, that's a whole OTHER subject!

And now a POEM ...

A clothesline was a news forecast, To neighbours
passing by,

There were no secrets you could keep, When clothes
were hung to dry.

It also was a friendly link, For neighbours always
knew

If company had stopped on by, To spend a night or two.

For then you'd see the "fancy sheets", And
towels upon the line;

You'd see the "company table cloths", With
intricate designs.

The line announced a baby's birth, From folks who
lived inside,

As brand new infant clothes were hung, So carefully
with pride!

The ages of the children could, So readily be known

By watching how the sizes changed, You'd know how much
they'd grown!

It also told when illness struck, As extra sheets were
hung;

Then nightclothes, and a bathrobe too, Haphazardly
were strung.

It also said, "On vacation now", When lines
hung limp and bare.

It told, "We're back!" when full lines
sagged, With not an inch to spare!

New folks in town were scorned upon, If wash was dingy
and gray,

As neighbours' carefully raised their brows, And looked
the other way.

But clotheslines now are of the past, For dryers make
work much less.

Now what goes on inside a home, Is anybody's guess!

I really miss that way of life, It was a friendly sign

When neighbors' knew each other best... By what hung
out on that line.<span style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt;"><b style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
Am I the only person who
hasn't heard of "cooler corn"?

As an obsessive food nerd, you'd expect that I would have at least heard of
it, but over the weekend I was blindsided by the simple genius of this method
for cooking loads of corn on the cob perfectly.

I was hepped to it while visiting my family in Maine. Short story: We like
corn on the cob. And with eight adults at the table, that means a couple of
dozen ears. We would have used the lobster pot to cook them all, but the
lobster pot was busy steaming lobster.Then my sister, a capable Maine cook
with years of camping experience says "let's do cooler corn!"
Before I can ask "what is cooler corn?" a Coleman cooler appears
from the garage, is wiped clean, then filled with the shucked ears. Next, two
kettles-full of boiling water are poured over the corn and the top closed.

Then nothing.

When we sat down to dinner 30 minutes later and opened it, the corn was
perfectly cooked. My mind was blown. And I'm told that the corn will remain
at the perfect level of doneness for a couple of hours.

Turns out, Cooler Corn is pretty well known among the outdoorsy set But for
those of us who avoid tents as much as possible, it's perfect for large
barbecues and way less of mess than grilling. In fact, I may even buy another
cooler just so I'm ready for next summer. Now that I'm in the know.
