End of Ozzie and Harriet

Well the last of the Nelsons died today. My daughter and I continue to be fans of the Ozzie & Harriet show and have lots of the episodes here on dvd. We were sorry to hear that David Nelson, the older brother, passed away today at the age of 74. His younger brother Ricky died in a plane crash in 1985; his dad Ozzie was the first to go in 1975; and mom Harriet passed away in 1994. Even though criticized by some to be a family which was unrealistic, we still thoroughly enjoy the episodes which always make us chuckle at the normal everyday situations and conversations. I don't really know why we like it so much, but apparently lots of folks did back then as the show ran for 14 years from 1952 to 1966. It would never make it today, would it?

As I read somewhere, one more person from a "gentler, kinder past" has gone on. Well, thank the Lord for dvds and videos.

I saw it on FoxNews earlier that he had passed. I used to enjoy this program myself as a child. I'll tell you Maxine we're seeing the last of the last of all the good stuff from back in those times.

You can barely turn the TV on now even commercials can be divisive and disgusting.

I am very careful about what I watch, when I watch.

Blessings to you dear friend!

I could not agree more, Lisa, especially what you said about the commercials.

Remember what the Word says, though. God told us that in the last days "perilous times" would come and evil men would "wax worse and worse." That's what we're seeing.

Oh Maxine, we are such kindred spirits...It is sad isn't it? My husband and I were watching tlc the other night and we were horrified by what was advertised on a commercial, it's not fit to write. When we soon move to our home in the country we will not pay for that kind of thing any longer. I'm collecting dvds of the old movies & such now so we will be set when we move.

I'm afraid that what we are seeing in our world is just what the Bible describes. God will take care of His own though, and as I tell our daughters, there are other families out there too who are not buying into the worldliness.

Lately we have been so shocked at the parents who we thought to be sold out to the Lord who are buying into Babylon through busyness etc.

Thanks Maxine for this sweet blog. Yes Maxine, thank the Lord for dvds & videos. I even love the old commercials sometimes on them! : )

Bless you dear friend. ~Amelia

I did not know that....... Nothing in the news.... It was my FAVORITE show ...... had all of Ricky's records...... what a shame,, I hope they all knew the Lord, thus they are together..........

Thanks for the sweet comment on my bible.... and no there is not one single person to give that bible to.. I have two sons and one DIL that is far from a Christian...... so I have no idea who would want it. Sad kinda!

Those were the good old days, Maxine. I love the old movies though I don't watch many of the old programs. They were great though.

It's too bad what our world has come to. I am shocked when I see some of the programs today.

I was sorry to hear that David Nelson died, as theirs was one of the tv shows I grew up on. Perhaps I should invest in a few DVDs of this show and others from that time, as they are far better than what is on now. And yes, I always have my finger on the remote in case a commercial is bad.

We truly must be in the last days, Maxine. I will trust the Lord in His timing and yet I also pray, "Come Lord Jesus."
Blessings to you!

Well, ladies, until they do away with them, build up your library of dvd's!

I didn't watch this show too often, but I know what you mean. I felt this way when Don Knotts died.
Our favorite is the original I Love Lucy shows.

I hadn't heard about this. It's too bad. I can't believe he was 74. I think of him with his brother Rick and Rick died so young.

I hope you are doing well. I thought I would come by and say hello.

That was one of the great, clean programs back then on TV. I watched it all the time and my children watched the re-runs. I wish it was back on TV so others could get 'hooked' on the good! So much nowadays is trash that is shown on TV.

Rick Nelson was one of our favorite singers and it was a tragic loss when he died.
