Primary Day

Here in our state it's primary voting day and there's a hotly contested race on the Republican side for the governorship. (Is that a word?) Well, we went and voted for the candidate of our choice. You may remember some things I said back at the general election about the community we live in. We are VERY much in the minority. So one of the ladies who waited on us was so shocked when she saw that we were voting on the "REP" side of things. She was so excited (quite obviously because she too was another of those strange R's in the community) that she actually kissed my hand in jest and whispered her thankfulness to see another of us come in. It was quite obvious that the other lady behind the table did not share her view. Actually, it was all quite amusing to say the least. It was late morning, and I was only number 2 to vote in our district for our political party. I wonder who the other one was? Oh, it was probably that lady. Well, my husband followed along as number 3 and she was all the more tickled.

Not that I think any particular political party is the answer to all the woes that we are enduring as a nation. Our only hope and answer is the Lord. This country needs Him desperately. We need to RETURN to Him. We never were following Him perfectly, of course, but there was a day when we at least showed some semblance of seeking God. That's why the button you see above was not an offense to me. You see, while I am thankful for many of the advances we have made here in America, there are so many ways that I would indeed like to go backwards. Actually, this button made me think. How and where would I like to see this country of mine go backward? Here are a few:

1. There was a day when it was considered an abomination to intentionally kill a child in the womb, let alone that it would be legally sanctioned by the government.

2. There was a day when there would have been absolutely no question whatsoever that marriage was between a man and a woman. The fact that it would even be questioned at all would have been unheard of.

3. There was a day when prayer and Bible reading in public schools would never have been considered an offense to anyone. It was just a normal part of the school day.

4. There was a day when teaching abstinence was not questioned.

5. There was a day when you could turn on your TV to look at regular network programs, sit down and watch them with your children, and not worry what was going to be seen or heard from across the airwaves.

6. There was a day when stores and other places of business honored the Lord's Day.

I could do more, but I have to go start dinner so I'll stop for now. I wish I had time to go on, but maybe some of you have something you could add.

Sorry, the button got posted before the article, Susan, but the button is pretty funny by itself!

Thank for letting me know, Maxine. I would have hated to miss "the rest of the story"!

I remember the day when a man or woman's word was as good as any signed contract.

When walking in such a way to bring honor to your family and family name.

As you say, we could go on and on forever. I often have said, I think my generation was the last generation of innocense. I remember my friend getting in trouble in school for sticking re-informents on her forhead, etc.

Glad you voted as you see fit. We must not give up that right, no matter how outnumbered we become. Thankfully Oklahoma is still one of the more conservative states. Although we were horrified this past week to hear that one of our State Representatives just checked himself into the Betty Ford Clinic.

Oh girl, how true...... I am grieved for my nation and God is the only hope. I pray for our Nation and I pray that in two years when we go to the polls again we can turn some of this around. BUT not sure how much damage will have been done by then....... You are right...It is God that will do it, and not we ourselves.............

That's cute about your voting, Maxine. It's too bad you don't have more Republicans. I enjoyed your great post.

I enjoyed ready your thoughts on this. I remember the day when people sat on neighbors porches and talked and got to know each other. Now days were all in a hurry.Doors were left unlocked and windows could be left up without fear.I grew up in a small town with two redlights.I miss that simply way of life. God is so good. Have a Blessed day. Lisa

This post is so on target Maxine. I too vote for the person and not for one particular party. With having said that, I do think the Republicans are going to have to improve their image in the near future in order to be electable I don'tknow what, or how, but something will need to be changed.

Blessings of peace to you dear Maxine and I hope you have a great day!

There was a day when little girls dressed like little girls, (oh, and they knew the meaning of prudence). and....dressed up meant dressed up! There was a day when you could tell the difference between boys and girls... Those are the 2 things that immediately came to my mind. By the way, I always enjoy reading your blog!

There was a day when good manners were important....when people truly cared about their neighbor..when people worked hard for a living and the neighborhoods were full of moms home...tending to their children...now everyone is gone but oh so lovely homes...manicured lawns the best of this and that..but no one home to enjoy them..there was a day..I am sure the list is endless...
count me in as a *R* too....

We are on the same page! As a Christian who is conservative and votes that way I can tell you that I want to see MANY THINGS go back to what GOD SAID!

What a lovely blog. I found you through your comment on Social Sense. Your postings are inspirational. I think we all long for the clearly defined values and a society that honors God's love in how we live again. Flawed though it was, I always felt safe and sure. Nowadays, that is not true.
