Come, Ye Disconsolate

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16

Come, ye disconsolate, where'er ye languish,
Come to the mercy-seat, fervently kneel:
Here bring your wounded hearts, here tell your anguish;
Earth has no sorrows that heav'n cannot heal.

Joy of the comfortless, light of the straying,
Hope of the penitent, fadeless and pure!
Here speaks the Comforter, in mercy saying,
"Earth has no sorrows that heav'n cannot cure."

Here see the Bread of Life; see waters flowing
Forth from the throne of God, pure from above:
Come to the feast prepared; come ever knowing
Earth has no sorrows but heav'n can remove.

Stanzas 1-2, Thomas Moore, 1816
Stanza 3, Thomas Hastings, 1832

For our dear friends, Ken and Wendy, whose son Ben was killed in an auto accident early this morning.

My International Day of Prayer post is at my other blog.

Beautiful and very fitting hymn.
I just heard this news today and am so saddened and shocked. We will most definitely be praying for that dear family.
Hope you and my parents are able to be an encouragement to the family this evening. We'll be praying for you.

My Utmost for His Highest is an excellent devotional. I like the fact that Oswald Chambers really emphasizes not giving in to self-pity in a lot of the different sections. It really helps me put my eyes back where they're supposed to be- on the Lord Jesus.

This is such a beautiful and soothing hymn - perfect for this situation. May God be glorified in this tragic circumstance.

The Word tells us that the sorrows of this life cannot be compared to what will be revealed to us in eternity. Then what to be revealed has got to be so astronomically beautiful beyond our imagination because the sorrows of this life are sometimes all consuming in their agonies that they threaten to literally crush us.

I am so very, very sorry for their loss. Pausing to lift your dear friends in the midst of their deep sorrow.

I've been missing you. But I've been sick here for a bit.

Thanks for posting the words of Thomas Moore's beautiful hymn. To learn more about him and his song, check out my daily blog on hymns, Wordwise Hymns. I've included a link to an absolutely gorgeous rending of the hymn by the Baylor University Choir. Hope it blesses you as it did me.
