Rescued

He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my foot upon a rock, and established my goings. Psalm 40:2

I have always loved this verse and what it means in the life of any believer. What is happening right now in Chile cannot but help make us think of this blessed truth.

This ongoing rescue of the miners is amazing. It is often unbelievable what man can accomplish when he sets his mind to it. What is sad is that often he (man) does not really understand (even though he make give a token acknowledgment) that he can do absolutely nothing apart from what almighty God allows. God is sovereign. He allowed this trapping of the miners and it's He that is orchestrating this whole rescue. We may not know fully what His purposes are in all of this, but He has them and all glory goes to Him.

I understand that when the oldest of the miners was taken out of the capsule that the first thing he did was get down on his knees in thanksgiving to God. Of course, we don't know what the true state of his soul is, but this miner surely did what each and every one of them should be doing. We can keep praying that as they are being rescued out of the pit, the same thing will some day be true in the spiritual realm.

Only Jesus saves from the horrible pit of sin. May He be glorified!!

What a perfect analogy Maxine. I try to imagine what it must have been like, and I can hardly take it in.
What a blessing to be rescued!

Perfect verse, Maxine, for the rescue of those miners. And the Lord has done a similar thing for EVERY one of us that knows him. May we never forget that we, too, were once in a horrible pit, unable to see the light and unable to get out on our own.

Hugs,
Patti

An encouraging post with excellent comments - I know I've been praising HIm each time I've heard more details, and Twitter is full of praise for Him - LOTS of rejoicing going on, what a JOY! :)

Have a blessed week!

Amen, Maxine. I was up very late last night watching the first three being rescued. It is awesome. More are falling on their knees and praying I believe. To God be the glory!

oh wow Maxine! You did a great job with this verse... I have only just caught a bit of the news concerning the miners here and there. I can't imagine the horror of being trapped underground, especially for so long. These types of stories are a little bit too frequent these days, so maybe He is trying to give the world a message.

God bless you and happy WFW!

Great analogy, Maxine. I can't imagine how those miners feel - having been trapped underground all this time. And yet, as you say there are people who are trapped in a pit of sin and still refuse to believe the only One who can save them. Perhaps this event will serve to remind many that Jesus is the only way.

What a great analogy and picture to accompany that verse. He truly lifts us from deep pits of our own and other's making and sets us in a firm and spacious place. Giving praise!!

Wonderful words, Maxine, as always. We prayed Tuesday night at our Bible Study that these men would come forth with testimonies of God and we were blessed to see many of them did. I was fortunate enough to see the #9, 63 year old with the most serious health issues, fall on his knees, raise his arms and pray!!!!

There was an article at the Baptist Press: http://www.sbcbaptistpress, that two of them accepted Christ while down in the mine. I posted a link on Facebook for anyone interested in reading it.

This was such a touching time watching them come up. Since we don't have tv access, my MIL would call periodically with the countdown. God is good!

I was so happy to see each and every one of those miners rescued! It was a special blessing to hear some of them credit God with bringing them indeed "out of that horrible pit"! What a miracle!
