Be Still My Soul

I missed my Saturday evening hymn post, but it's never too late. Months ago, I posted a stanza of this old favorite. I'm sure it's one of your favorites too. I felt constrained to post it again. A dear friend needs it.

Be still, my soul: the Lord is on thy side;
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain;
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In ev'ry change he faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: thy best, thy heav'nly Friend
Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Be still, my soul: thy God doth undertake
To guide the future as he has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know
His voice who ruled them while he dwelt below.

Be still, my soul: when dearest friends depart,
And all is darkened in the vale of tears,
Then shalt thou better know his love, his heart,
Who comes to soothe thy sorrow and thy fears.
Be still, my soul: thy Jesus can repay
From his own fullness all he takes away.

Be still, my soul: the hour is hast'ning on
When we shall be for ever with the Lord,
When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past,
All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.

God never disappoints me in speaking something to my heart through another in the Lord. There are times when lingering trials threaten to swell into storms within but He quiets me somehow.

Very, very timely.

Maxine, I hope it's ok if I respond to Sparrow's Song here, I'm hoping she'll come back since I'm unable to log in on her blog & I really want to recommend a blog to her. It's on paultrippministries.blogspot.com dated 12/14/07: Ps. 27 "Sinned Against Again" A line that sticks out is: "He (God) places us in interpersonal difficulty because He intends that difficulty to be a workroom of redemption." In my comments to Paul I quoted "What'er my God ordains is right" another hymn appropriate in trials.

Thanks so much, Barb. I'll go over to Sparrow's and tell her someone left a note here for her. I'm sure it'll be helpful to her.

barbara - thank you for your note. I agree with your quote. To seek a way out of difficulties may very well be moving away from His Will.

Thank you, Maxine.
