My Mother

Who fed me from her gentle breast,
And hush'd me in her arms to rest,
And on my cheek sweet kisses prest?
My Mother.

When sleep forsook my open eyes,
Who was it sung sweet lullaby,
And soothed me that I should not cry?
My Mother.

Who sat and watch'd my infant head,
When sleeping on my cozy bed;
And tears of sweet affection shed?
My Mother.

Who lov'd to see me pleased and gay,
And taught me sweetly how to play,
And minded all I had to say?
My Mother.

Who ran to help me when I fell.
And would some pretty story tell.
Or kiss the place and make it well?
My Mother.

Who taught my infant heart to pray,
And love God's holy book and day;
And taught me wisdom's pleasant way?
My Mother.

And can I ever cease to be
Affectionate and kind to thee,
Who was so very kind to me,
My Mother?

Ah, no! the thought I cannot bear,
And if God please my life to spare,
I hope I shall reward thy care,
My Mother.

And when I see thee hang thy head,
'Twill be my turn to watch thy bed,
And tears of sweet affection shed,
My Mother.

For God, who lives above the skies,
Would look with vengeance in his eyes,
If I should ever dare despise
My Mother.

A blessed Mother's Day to all of you who are mothers and/or have a mother. If your mom has gone on ahead of you, as mine has, cherish your memories.

There are always some for whom Mother's Day is painful for one reason or another. To those I say, having Jesus makes up for any lack you may have or have had in your life. Draw near to Him and seek Him with all your heart. If you or I have Him, we have all we need, even when the pain is there.

Oh, how precious.

I love this... when sleep forsook my open eyes... What a beautiful way to say that- colic and coughing and nightmares are so ugly, but He is watchful over our sleep, and makes our mama's to be His present guard.

Thank you, friend.

That was beautiful! So true and I am so blessed to have a mother like this.

To those, like my dear grandfather who did not have a mother - he was abandoned as a child, I say to you, become that mother or mentor in someone's life.

Maxine, you always inspire me to become the woman of God that He would want, sometimes that means laying down my own ambitions and desires and want what God wants more than anything else.

P.S. I'm having a special guest author on my blog on Friday with her new book, Face of Faith. She will inspire and encourage you and your readers with her trust in Christ her Lord.

Much love,
Susan

you shared,
If your mom has gone on ahead of you, as mine has, cherish your memories.I could barely see to type this after reading your post because it touched me instantly. The only thing that will keep me sane when my Mother leaves this earth, will be knowing that I'll see her in heaven. God keeps the best for last. All tears will be wiped away forever.

Motherhood is looked down upon by the apostate culture of today. If a position doesn't bring in money, then it has little to no value in their eyes. Children are an inconvenience to them. Juxtapose this against the Holy mind of God and you find such a clash. Motherhood is a labor of love and a gift from God.

God bless you as a Mother, and as a Grandmother.
