Alas! and Did my Saviour Bleed

Alas! and did my Saviour bleed,
And did my Sovereign die!
Would he devote that sacred head
For such a worm as I!

Was it for crimes that I had done
He groaned upon the tree!
Amazing pity! grace unknown!
And love beyond degree!

Well might the sun in darkness hide,
And shut his glories in,
When Christ, the mighty Maker, died
For man the creature's sin.

Thus might I hide my blushing face
While his dear cross appears;
Dissolve my heart in thankfulness,
And melt mine eyes in tears.

But drops of grief can ne'er repay
The debt of love I owe;
Here, Lord, I give myself away,
'Tis all that I can do.

~ Isaac Watts

Tomorrow, once again, we come to another Good Friday when we remember His sacrifice. Yes, it is a "good" Friday, because if it had not been for that sacrifice, where would we be? Meditate on it, dear friends, and may the words of Mr. Watts, written so long ago, minister to your hearts.

Thank God "For such a worm as I". Says it all.

Maxine, this hymn so well says what is in the hearts of His followers as we think upon the cross. It was at Easter many years ago that I began to understand, and I completely surrendered at a Billy Graham Crusade not long after. His sacrifice and resurrection mean everything to me, as I know it does to you, too.

May you and your family be blessed as you remember all He has done.
Love,
Laurie

A hearty Amen, my dear sister. May we be ever mindful of the horrific death our Saviour endured for us.

Love,
Patti

Thank you Maxine, oh such a sweet sobering reminder of our precious Lord Jesus as He suffered for us.

My Italian grandma and I would make stuffed artichokes on Good Friday, once I said...It's dark and stormy outside. My grandma said quietly...It always is on Good Friday when Jesus suffered for us. It really does seem that most Good Fridays are dark and cloudy many times...It made such an impression on me because normally my grandma was not sober in that way.

Thank you for the reminder once again. I'm amazed at the Lord's patience with me many a day.

Your blog is a blessing, My daughter will be coming to visit soon, I've told her all about you all. Blessings to you and your sweet family as we meditate on our Lord Jesus.
