What Happened?

Cleaning out my inbox, I found an email I had forgotten about. Thinking about the economic difficulties we're having right now as well as the moral climate, it's hard to believe from whence we've come. The title of the email is "Comments Made in the Year 1955." That's not so long ago. Goodness. What Happened?

There were a lot of them; I'll just give you a sample of some:

'I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are, it's going to be impossible to buy a week's groceries for $20.00.'

'Have you seen the new cars coming out next year? It won't be long before $2,000.00 will only buy a used one.'

'Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging a dime just to mail a letter?'

'When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would someday cost 29 cents a gallon. Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage.'

'Kids today are impossible. Those duck tail hair cuts make it impossible to stay groomed. Next thing you know, boys will be wearing their hair as long as the girls.'

'Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract for $75,000 a year just to play ball? It wouldn't surprise me if someday they'll be making more than the President.'

'It's too bad things are so tough nowadays. I see where a few married women are having to work to make ends meet.'

'Marriage doesn't mean a thing any more, those Hollywood stars seem to be getting divorced at the drop of a hat.'

'No one can afford to be sick anymore, at $35.00 a day in the hospital it's too rich for my blood.'

'If they think I'll pay 50 cents for a hair cut, forget it.'

'The drive-in restaurant is convenient in nice weather, but I seriously doubt they will ever catch on.'

'I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen appliances would be electric. They are even making electric typewriters now.'

Back to the good old days.

It's kind of scary, isn't it? Wonder what they'll be saying in the year 2055 about the way we have it now?

Oh, gas in my area is now about $2.23 a gallon. Only about 4 months ago it was $4.13, so it's come down nearly $2 in 2 months. And I now think that is cheap!! Isn't that funny. When gas was on it's way up, we thought $2.23 was expensive. Now we think it's cheap!

Hope your day is wonderful, filled with the Lord's love,
Patti

It is always interesting to me to see how little life really changes. I love to read books written in the 1800's and there are times if I didn't know the publishing date I would think it had been written in our time.

Oh my goodness. I wish haircuts were still 50 cents. I just got back from the salon today, and oh my!!!

Thanks for sharing that! I'm so glad our God never changes - His methods might, but His purpose - NEVER!

Hi Maxine! I was born in 1950 and remember much of that. I can remember gas wars and paying $.25 for a gallon of gas. It much you wonder just how different things will be in another 50 years.
