We're Desperate

One of the things that irks me the most about this ongoing controversy over health care is that the current administration, with the help of the media, consistently presents the position of those on the other side as being against reform. To me, they make you think that the GOP doesn't want anything to change. Conservatives DO acknowledge that there needs to be changes. The Republicans in Congress have drafted good solid proposals for change. But they're not being heard. Offers to sit down and discuss these proposals have been refused. As wrong as Rep. Wilson from South Carolina may have been in his conduct last night, I do understand how frustrated many of these people must be.

We do need change, as I just said. I think everyone knows that. No one is really saying otherwise. But we want change that is good and right for all. Let's be real and honest about this thing. Let's not play games. Listen, for every sad, sad story that people can tell about real people in America who have had tragic results from our system, there are even more sad, sad stories coming out of Europe and Canada about the sufferings of people who have nationalized health care. Let's not exchange stories, but facts. Real facts. "We can swap health care horror stories all day, Mr. President, but at the end of the day, people still come to America from all across the world to be treated in our hospitals, by our doctors, with technology created by our free market system." says Jeff Shreiber of America's Right. Jeff has a very comprehensive analysis of last night's speech. He's up on the bill and knows his stuff. I suggest anyone who really wants to understand this matter better, to read his post.

This is not what I wanted to say initially. Just had to vent a bit first. I came here to post this: We are in a desperate need in this country. We are only concerned about health issues, economic woes, education, human rights, etc. Our leaders and unfortunately, most of our people are not the least bit concerned about the horrible state our nation is in spiritually. Yes, we have needs. Some of them have to do with problems with medical care; some have to do with the state of the economy; some have to do with problems in our public educational system. But we are a nation of people who have turned our backs on the God who has providentially guided and helped us. We have rejected the Savior who is the only hope for eternity. And in that, my friends, our need is most desperate.

Great post, Maxine!! Such true words. Our true need as a nation is to get on our faces before God and repent for our sin. About 5 years ago, an extended family member was lamenting to me about the sorry state of our country, blaming it entirely on the Bush administration and " crooked career politicians." I begged to differ with that person, saying that I believed the blame was not on politicians but on the fact that we, as a nation, had turned our backs on God. We were just reaping the consequences of those actions and would never prosper until we turned back to him. Sadly, the family member refused to acknowledge this and continued to blame politicians. Perhaps God has allowed us to have those "crooked career politicians" because we have strayed from him. Even so, it is our sin as a nation that has brought that about.

On another note, my family is among the uninsured...and we are that way by choice. We have chosen to use a Christian medical sharing plan for our medical needs, and it's a system that works....beautifully. Even though the Obama administration wants people to think otherwise, there are plenty of people who CHOOSE not to have traditional medical insurance.

Sorry for the long-winded comment.

Love,
Patti

Oh Maxine - this is so well stated. I couldn't agree more. We will never make the kind of changes this country needs apart from God. I believe the church has a lot to answer for, but it is never too late for repentance and a turning back to what God has called us to be.

Help yourself, Patti. Your comments can be as long as you want them to be! We especially need to hear from folks like you because your stories are not being told.

Amen, Linda. I so agree about the church. The church in America's sad state is a big reason for the sad state overall.

AMEN and thank you to your wonderful post, Maxine. You are always so clear in stating your point. AMEN also to the two commentors before me.

Thanks God some of us are waking up and becoming aware. We just have to press the issue and keep pushing for Christians to rise up and walk in the TRUTH of JESUS first and formost, but in ALL TRUTH about our country, too.

I so agree, Maxine, our nation needs to once again turn back to our God.

My prayer continues to be that there might be some real dialog between our elected officials concerning health care reform, and soon.

Hopefully, the shouting and yelling might soon stop and real conversasion begin. Only then might we begin to really problem solve as a nation.

It is my hope, it is my prayer.

Grace & peace to you dear friend.

You are so right, my friend, and that was a great article about the speech. I have been praying for God to have mercy on our country and to intervene.

You always seem to hit the nail on the head. We need to fix what's broken within the system and not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Our leaders and unfortunately, most of our people are not the least bit concerned about the horrible state our nation is in spiritually.

When 9-11 was fresh on hearts, American churches were flooded with people. But most came for the wrong reasons. They were afraid. Fear of the Lord is one thing but fear for the sake of grasping at whatever will slap a band-aid on the problem to make them feel better is useless. We need improved health care now more than ever because our Nation is spiritually sick.

We need to find where it an be improved and fix that while keeping the current health care for individuals where it does work. Take some of that useless Global Warming mis-used taxer money and put it towards helping people NOW! I've read the end of the Book stating that the end of earth only comes when it melts away when God determines.

Revelation 20:11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
